Obituary

William “Bill” Landis passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 70. Bill was born to Wilbur Landis and Rosa Johnson on April 15, 1947 in Berlin, Germany. As a young man he served his country proud as an officer in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed many things in life that included golf, softball, watching and supporting the University of Kansas sports teams as a former graduate, art, painting, and occasionally illustrating for local newspapers. But most of all Bill enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Sharon of 49 years; son, Chad (Anna) Landis; step-father, Max Johnson and too many nieces, nephews and extended friends and family to count including some in Austria. Bill is preceded in death by his mother Rosa K Johnson. A celebration of life will be held at Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages on August 14, 2017 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The American Cancer Society or Cornerstone Hospice of The Villages, Florida.

Just came across this today. My heartfelt sympathy to Sharon and Chad. Met and worked with Bill at the Corps of Engineers in Kansas City. Also freelanced with him developing sports cartoons for the Kansas City Star. Have many good memories of him, Sharon and Chad. May God bless him and his family.

One of my co-workers while we were at Regional Office in EPA. I always enjoyed my working with man. He had a great sense of humor and was able to relate to everyone. I am an owner of one of his caricatures which he drew. You only got one of these if he liked you. He will be missed.

Bill was a wonderful friend and neighbor. He loved sports, drawing and helping his neighbors. A big heart and loved doing his Senior Moments, and liked to pick up on things that neighbors said or did. Will miss that big smile.

Bill had extraordinary athletic ability and was an artist. I would cut out the newspaper cartoons he did and save them for when I needed a good chuckle! Thank you Bill for making our world a better, happier place. Praying The Lord will comfort Sharon and family.

We will miss Bill's joy and enthusiasm for playing and watching sports and other games, movies, gardening, food, and well, let's put it this way, for everything that he did. He was always fun to be with. He was ready to give a helping hand readily and gladly. We enjoyed playing pickleball, softball, golf, cards, watching NCAA football and basketball, and dining out together. We enjoyed the traveling that we did together. We enjoyed a lot of these good times with dear Sharon and Bill together and love them individually and as a couple. God rest Bill's soul and may the peace of the Lord be with you and your family, Sharon.
    Love, Linda and Jay

Bill, you will be missed greatly. You made us laugh with your wonderful cartoons of all us "mature" folks, exclaim over your extraordinary artistic talent, feel better just being with you with your exuberance for life. We wish you peace in your journey and comfort for your family.

Bill was a big man with an even bigger heart who impulsively shared his passion for life with his family and friends. His artistic talent embellished his hearty sense of humor. His mere presence on a field or court or course energized all around him.
He fought his foe bravely but finally signed on to sport with the angels. As we all share in the grief of his passing may we all celebrate the unforgettable man we knew and the life he lived--the love, joy and laughter he shared so freely with all of us.
Sharon, we are still on our 6 week road trip but know that you and your family remain in our prayers. Fondly, Ken and Leigh
