James Francis Pierce, 85, of Edgewater, FL, died peacefully at home on Friday, July 29, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. James was born and raised in Pleasantville, NJ. He and his wife of 62 years, Joan, resided in Northfield, NJ, before moving to Edgewater, FL in 1996. After retiring from Western Electric Company as a Central Office Installer, he drove a school bus for Ryder Transportation. Jim was an avid gardener and also enjoyed playing pool, swimming, fishing, and bowling. Jim is survived by his wife Joan; his three daughters, Theresa Finegan, Bonnie (David) Montgomery, and Diane (Russ) Strait; seven grandchildren, Debbie Finegan, Sean Strait, Kevin Strait, Kelly Montgomery, Colleen Montgomery, 1Lt Ryan Strait, and Karen (Montgomery) Liszewski; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Pierce. He is also survived by his brother, Alfred (Jeanne) Pierce, numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Muffy. The family wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude to VITAS Hospice Team 217 for their loving care of Jim in his final days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, on Friday, August 5 at 1:00 p.m.
