Obituary

Robert Alan Morrison, March 15, 1988 - May 6, 2014 Our beloved Robert – adored son, brother, grandchild, nephew, cousin, uncle, friend, gifted musician, cellist, teacher, avid FSU fan, and caring, kind soul – has passed into a place of perfect light, love, and peace. Robert forever brightened the lives of all those he touched through his lifelong gifts of music, an enormous and loving heart, and his endearing sense of humor. Robert was a graduate of Winter Park High School and Rollins College with a degree in music. He also attended Florida State University as a music education major. As a cellist, Robert had enjoyed performing with the Florida Young Artists’ Orchestra as a charter member, the FSU Summer Music Camps, the Sewannee Music Festival in Tennessee, the Schlern Music Festival in Italy, the Winter Park Bach Festival Orchestra, the Maitland Symphony, and the American Moravian Orchestra and Chorus on tour in Prague and Germany. Robert was happiest in recent years when he was performing his cello at Rollins College and the First Congregational Church of Winter Park, of which he was a lifelong member. Robert’s beloved cello teachers and music mentors have included Shirley Tabachnick, Brenda Higgins, Nancy Christy, John Sinclair, Michael Simpson and Jonathan May. He loved the music of Tchaikovsky and Faure but also that of U2 and John Denver, and his karaoke interpretations of Queen were legendary. The ultimate FSU football fan and statistician, Robert attended every home game with his family and was a loyal and well-read sports fan and aficionado. An avid gamer and formidable opponent, Robert loved to challenge his friends and family to a game. Robert will continue to brighten the world of his friends and family in perpetuity. He is with us, and his love and spirit are expansive and envelop us forever. Robert’s loving family includes his parents, Paul and Elizabeth Morrison; his paternal grandparents, Dale and Martha Morrison; his maternal grandmother, Ione Hyatt; his sisters, Sarah Morrison (husband, Matthew Davis) and Joanna Morrison (husband, Ethan Pernela); his girlfriend, Ashley Alliano; and his beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Celebration of Life in honor of Robert Morrison will be held Thursday, May 15 at 4:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Winter Park. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, Robert’s family asks that donations be made to the Rollins College Department of Music toward the Robert Morrison Music Scholarship Fund.

Words cannot express the sorrow that I feel for you. No parent should ever have to lose a child. Our loving Creator knows how hard this is on you. We are told at In the book of Ezekiel “‘for I do not take any delight in the death of someone dying, is the utterance of the Sovereign Lord .” As you can see, He does not like death anymore than we do. It is not his will for us to die which is why He has given us the hope of everlasting life! (Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Rev. 21:3, 4). As the God and Father of tender mercies, He wants you to find comfort in Him through prayer (2Cor 1:3).

I first met Robert when he was a student at Glenridge Middle School. My daughter, Holly, loved playing in the orchestra with him. They would be stand partners off and on over the course of their time at GMS and WPHS. He was also so helpful and kind to her as she was a younger and less experienced player. Holly looked up to Robert and I enjoyed all the years of listening to him perform. He was an incredible musician. My sincerest symplathy to you all.

    Dear Morrison Family,
I was so very sorry to read of Robert's passing. I remember him fondly from my years working with Dr. Cumming. I always enjoyed talking with Robert when he came into the office, he was such a sweet young man. I know he grew into a wonderful person. My sincerest sympathy to you all.
