Obituary
Mary Kate Somers, age 62, went to meet her heavenly Father on May 26, 2016. She was born January 26, 1954, in Jacksonville, Florida to James Joseph and Mary Agnes Luxton.
Mary Kate was a woman of great faith and she loved and trusted her heavenly Father.
John 14: 1-6
Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.
Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going, and how can we know the way?
Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Her greatest passion and pride was her family. Mary Kate loved her family and did everything she could to support her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards (especially spades), puzzles, reading, cooking, music, watching movies and spending time with friends. Family get-togethers were one of her greatest joys. In her childhood years and as an adult she enjoyed trips to Savannah to spend time with Great Aunts, Great Uncles and cousins, especially get-togethers at her dearly beloved Aunt Snookie’s and going to Johnny Harris Restaurant.
Survivors include two children: Angel Phillips and Jamie Somers, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, Susan (Tommy) Durham and brother Jimmy (Tina) Luxton, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her dearly beloved grandparents, parents, and her husband, Doug.
Save a place for me. Love you. See you soon. : )
