Obituary
Phil Dryden Snow of Calumet Grove in The Villages, passed away at Sylvia House Marion County Hospice on August 18th, after a long illness; he was 73 years old. He leaves his loving wife of 48 years, Diane and his beloved children and grandchildren; his daughter Hillary Rush, her husband Daniel and their children William, Alex, Noah and Hollyanne of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and son Michael Snow, his wife, Elizabeth and their children Lucas, Sean and Joshua of Quincy, MA. He is also survived by his brother Robert Snow and his spouse Howard Block of Jamaica Plain, MA.
Phil was born in Cambridge, MA. and graduated from Lexington High School. He received his BS in Geology from Marietta College, a MS in geochemistry from Syracuse University, a second MS and a PhD from the University of Mass, Amherst in environmental engineering. He was a professor in the Civil Engineering Dept at Union College, Schenectady, NY for 31 years. His areas of interest were waste water management and lake restoration. He enjoyed his students, especially taking them on a mini term abroad to Sao Paulo, Brazil to see firsthand the impact of contaminated water supplies on such a diverse population.
He loved The Villages and his wonderful friends, both old and new. His fashion statement contribution was to wear yellow tape measure suspenders, which always evoked a smile from those around him. He loved gardening, traveling and golfing. While he was not the best golfer, his score would improve when he would ask to take his customary “provisional”. He will be missed by his friends, and family.
We want to thank Marion County Hospice for their care and support and All Coast Home Health Services.
There will be a celebration of life on September 24th, in Basking Ridge, NJ. There will also be a celebration of life in The Villages in October, date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Marion County or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
Love, Lynne and Jim
So sorry to hear the news today that Phil passed away last week. Gail and I have fond memories of you both here in New York. Phil was an original, and will be sorely missed.
All our best in these difficult times,
Steve and Gail
