Obituary
Helen (Ketola) LaCamera, 85, of Edgewater, FL passed away on December 1, 2016 after a brief illness. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, she lived in the Squantum section of Quincy before moving to Edgewater in 1981. Helen was an outstanding athlete at Quincy High School. After graduating, she had a tryout with the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League(AAGPBL) in 1954 and played for the Fort Wayne Daisies that season. She was an accomplished candlepin bowler and enjoyed golfing. Perhaps her most enjoyable past time was being behind the wheel of her car. She loved to drive. Her annual journey to Massachusetts to visit family and friends in the summer was a subject of much family debate. She would drive up north solo well into her 70’s. The family gave up trying to stop her. More importantly, Helen was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Helen is predeceased by her husband Joseph and is survived by a son Paul LaCamera of Kingston, Mass., a daughter Jean Pohl and son in law David Pohl of Edgewater, grandchildren Daniel (Heather) Pohl and Lauren (Russell) Hickling and a great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to AAGPBL at AAGPBL.org
Arrangements will be private.
I would like to add my condolences to the family and want you to know how much presence at the reunion as a precious time for all those who knew her. We all mourn the loss of a dear friend.
As the president of the AAGPBL during the reunion I had the opportunity to spend some time with Helen and I am honored to have had that opportunity.
In deepest sympathy,
