Obituary
Robert “Bob” Howe, an enthusiastic traveler, made his final journey as he left this mortal world on his 84th birthday, December 6, 2016.
A University of Florida business graduate, he developed and built motel/restaurant property in Gainesville. He added public service to his role when he served on the Alachua County School Board from 1970-1982, steering through rapidly changing times. He was President of the Florida School Boards Association.
He enjoyed life, and ventured far, whether by plane (Seneca N55465), or in a classic GMC motorhome, or riverboat, train, motorcycle or by foot power in hiking boots. He collected things along the way, including Lionel model trains, photo gear, art, wine, new tools and just rocks for building projects.
A calm and gentle soul, he is survived by his wife, Judy Johnson; his sons Rick (Leigh), Charles (Tammy) and Rob; his stepdaughters Alison (Tim) Merrill and Meredith (Jade) Johnson-Streit; his grandchildren Aimee, Maisie, Coty, Haylay, Brittany, Sarah, Shannon, Samantha and Jason; his sister, Betsy (Tom) Hall; and Carol Squitieri, the mother of his sons.
