Obituary
Bob Burkhalter, age 91, New Smyrna Beach, after a long and amazingly fulfilling and wonderful life, passed away at his home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, on Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Bob was born on July 27, 1925 in Athens, Alabama to John and Emma Burkhalter and had 7 brothers and sisters. Bob attended Vanderbilt University where he received his undergraduate degree in business. He received his law degree at Emory School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1953 he married Betty Estes Carson of Nashville, Tennessee and they moved to Orlando, Florida where Bob accepted a position with ACI Insurance Company. After Bob retired, he and Betty moved from Orlando to New Smyrna Beach. Betty passed away in 1998 and Bob married Zayne Sibley of New Smyrna Beach on July 26, 1999. Bob always spoke of how blessed he was to have had two loves in his life, and how happy he was to have met Zayne. In the last months of his life, Zayne was always there for him, providing love, care and support. Bob is survived by his second wife, Zayne Sibley Burkhalter, her son Brett Sibley, his girlfriend, Candace Beu and their daughter Bella. Bob and Betty had two children, Steve and Sally. Steve and his wife Harriet, their three daughters, Lauren Burkhalter, Whitney Bounds and her husband Hunter Bounds and Caroline Burkhalter and her fiancé Eric Templeton. Bob and Betty’s daughter, Sally Shaffer and her husband Lindy, and Sally’s daughter, Megan Febrega, her husband Carlos Fabrega, and Sally’s son John Tyler Aldridge. Bob had three great grandchildren, Isla Ricigliano, Carlos Fabrega, Jr and Evan Fabrega.
Funeral services will be held at St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church, 4220 Saxon Drive in New Smyrna Beach, Florida on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 2:00 pm.
And if you knew Bob really well you’d know that right now he would be saying , “I have to go now, I’m double parked!”
