Obituary
Marjorie was born July 4, 1922. She married her high school sweetheart, Donald Sirk, in 1943. Both graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. During World War II, when Don was sent to Germany, she worked at a Prisoner of War camp in Durham, NC and then taught school in her hometown of Hamilton, Ohio. She was also an Executive Secretary in an Atomic Energy Plant and became a Real Estate Broker in both Ohio and Florida.
She and Don moved to Daytona Beach in 1952 and built the Town & Surf Motel on the ocean on S. Atlantic Ave. They lived there and operated the motel for 30 years. They greatly enjoyed their clientele – with whom they became fast friends. They had 3 children: Cindy Merrick, Sandra Sirk, and William Sirk.
Margie was often known as Miss Secretary because she was the secretary in most of the clubs to which she belonged: Investment Club for 5 years, Peninsula Club for 30 years, Newcomers Club for 25 years, and Riverplace Board of Directors. She also belonged to AARP, Shores Senior Center, MOAS, Seaside Music and Orpenda Club and was a lifetime member of University Women. She was a volunteer at Halifax Hospital for 18 years.
Margie travelled worldwide and went on 32 cruises.
She is predeceased by her husband and son.
My mom wrote this for herself a few years ago. She will always be my best friend and the most beautiful person I will have ever known. She is loved so very, very much.
