Obituary

Jack Edward Dean, Sr. passed from this life to be with God on Monday, March 26, 2018 at the age of 79.
Born in Meridian, MS he moved to DeLand in 1941. A 1956 graduate of DeLand High School, he served in the US Army and later received a B.A. from Stetson University and a M.Div. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a teacher at both Sacred Heart Catholic School, New Smyrna Beach and at Southwestern Middle School, Deland for many years.
“Senior” was blessed with a beautiful voice and a sharp mind. He loved classical music, reading, magnolia trees, dogs, track & field, soccer, auto racing and his family. His greatest comfort in life was his faith in Jesus Christ. He is survived by his brothers Robert and Charles, daughter Elizabeth Beauchamp and sons Jack, David, Brent and their families.
“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12

Sorry to hear that Jack has died. I am a bus operator with Volusia County Transit. Jack began using Votran several months ago for his destination needs. The first time he boarded my bus in front of Hugh Ash Manor on Woodland Blvd. he introduced himself to me and was very kind. He rode often from Hugh Ash to Orange City and later would return home. Jack would call all the operators by their names and I know we all will miss him. I had been looking for him the past weeks and just now learned he had died. May he Rest In Peace

    Dean Family,
Prayers and thoughts are with all of you in this time of change. We in our family recently lost our Patriarch and father and it leaves a hole to be sure. But I do know that the memories that are built in a lifetime are never forgotten and in fact become stronger and more enjoyable over time. Always carry that with you as it helps in the journey that we are all on. God Bless you all.

Jack was a good parent, father, teacher and much more. We all learned something from him over the years of working together in education at Southwestern Middle School in DeLand. I got to know Jack even better with our love of track and field with Jack being a former record holder at DeLand High in the long jump. You have always been on my mind and hope you the best in your journey with our Father.
Your good friend - Tony Tussing

Our two sons were fortunate to have Mr. Dean as their teacher at Sacred Heart School. He made learning fun and they both rose in his class. Everyone loved him..They both rose in his class due to his kindness, patience and humor.

    Pops,
I miss you, but I'm glad you're at peace. Every time I sit around a campfire, listen to classical music, or hear a marching band, I'll smile for all of the fun we had.
    Love,
    Your Gal

Dad, I love you. You will always be in my heart. It wasn't always easy, but you taught me so much... the enjoyment of play and playfulness as an adult, the appreciation of a dog's unconditional love, the infinite possibilities of The Universe, the exquisite musical expression of Faith in Handel's Messiah, the thrill and precision of a well run 4x100 or 4x400 relay and most importantly, the value of friends and family. Your life has touched us all and it continues on as ripples across our own lives. Until we are once more face to face, know that you are missed. Love, Jack Jr
