Obituary
With profound grief, the family of John Douglas Anderson, Sr., 60, of Fort Myers announces his passing on Sunday, May 13th.
Born Oct. 5, 1957 at Lockbourne Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio, John spent the first 14 years of his life traveling with his parents, a brother and three sisters. He and his family were stationed in Mississippi, California, England (twice) and Arizona.
After his father’s retirement from the military in 1971, John moved to Fort Myers, where he spent his youth playing football, riding motorcycles, building forts, swimming, boating, fishing, snorkeling and water skiing.
At 16, while still in school, John started cutting meat at The Buckingham Store. He gained experience at Tice Foodway and U-Save Super Markets and at the age of 31 John started working for Publix where he spent the last 29 years dedicated to his loving “Publix family.”
John had an intense passion for life. He was incredibly witty with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. He loved being on the water, scuba diving, golfing, cooking and spending time with his wife, son and extended family.
He will be remembered lovingly by Belinda, his wife of 38 years. His memory also will be cherished by his brother Bob (Sandy) Anderson, sisters Dianne (Robert) Badgley of Fort Myers and Donna (Bill) Strickland of Tampa, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
