Obituary
Alberta ‘Joyce’ Hall, 80, of Greenwood, Ind., passed away July 2, 2018, surrounded by the love of her family at the Avow Hospice House in Naples, Fla.
Born on January 29, 1938, in Scottsville, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Emmet D. Harrison and Ruby Irene Harrison. A 1956 graduate of Southport High School in Southport, Indiana, she met the love of her life early, fellow student Frank Hall, and married him at the Southport Presbyterian Church before a group of her friends and family on December 22, 1956.
As a dedicated mother, she devoted her early working years to rearing three children. She enjoyed helping her two sons and daughter stay active in youth sports, Boy and Girl Scouts, and 4-H programs over the years.
It was early on that she realized a passion for advancing the education of the next generation, with a focus on helping disadvantaged students. As a relative newcomer to politics, she entered the Center Grove Community School Board race in 1984 and never looked back. Her passion to give back – not only for her own children but also for the children in the community – compelled her to run. In total, she served 20 years on the local school board and was named the Indiana State School Board Association ‘Board Member of the Year’ before retiring in 2004.
She was a selfless leader and in her spare time served as the Director of Pre-School Education at the Christ United Methodist Church located in Indianapolis. There she lived her passion helping shape and care for the next generation.
She was a woman of faith who believed in putting the combination of faith in God and the love of thy neighbor into action each day.
She is survived by her husband Frank Hall, three children, Kevin Hall (wife Lisa) of Naples, Fla., Keith Hall (wife Anne) of Bradenton, Fla., and Karen Hall of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Lindsey (Hall) Rabaut, Garrett Scharton, Grant Scharton, Tyler Hall, Brittney Willour, Kaitlyn Hall, Drayton Hall, Kassondra Hall, Savannah Hall, and Nicholas Hall; sister, Becky Schrock (husband Rich) of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother, Robin Martin (wife Holly) of Candor, NC and great-grandchildren Houston Willour-MacNair, Trayton Willour-MacNair, Conrad Scharton, Victoria Scharton, and Aiden Rabaut.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the wonderful staff at Avow Hospice House of Naples, Fla. for their excellent care and service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Joyce Hall Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Center Grove Education Foundation. Checks can be made payable to the Center Grove Education Foundation (2789 Trojan Lane Greenwood, Indiana 46413) with the memo line reading: CGSF/Joyce Hall. Online donations can be made through the foundation’s dedicated Joyce Hall Memorial Scholarship website located here.
Joyce Hall’s cremains will be laid to rest next to her father at the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, Indiana in September.
