Obituary

Longtime make up and make up effects artist, Daniel Hughes Ingraham, known to many as “Tio Loco” from 15 years work at the acclaimed Universal Halloween Horror Nights, passed away May 24,2020, after many years struggling with complications of diabetes.

Daniel was born June 22, 1966 in Kensington, Maryland, where he lived until after college. His love for movies and make up effects started as a child, watching late night re-runs of King Kong, The Wolf Man, James Bond, westerns and anything sci-fi or scary, while sitting on his beloved dad’s lap.

He cemented his obsession with makeup and special effects while attending Albert Einstein High School (1980-1984) where he was designated Make Up Designer/Manager of the Drama Club.  Daniel’s first paid professional make up jobs were applying detailed make ups for upper-classmen’s private Halloween parties.  With that and his experiences on the stage crew for the “Creation ‘84” music festival, working closely with N. Paul Stooky, Mylon LeFevre, Amy Grant, Joe English, and others, Daniel knew the entertainment world was where he needed to be.  He went on to earn a degree in Technical Theatre at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland (1990), working on several theatrical productions and deejaying at the college radio station, WROC 650 AM.   He then moved to the Orlando area to pursue a career and to study make up and make up effects under several exceptional artists, including the late, widely acclaimed Dick Smith.
Daniel worked on several feature and short films over the years including
Night which was produced in association with his production company, Glass Asylum Productions, also creating the movie’s make up effects, special effects, and props at his F/X shop, Infinite Mirth Studio.  Dan also loved the creativity and structure of writing, authoring the make up tips “how to” column, “Make Up Mayhem” and two short stories published in a literary horror magazine–“What Lurks (At The End Of The Hall)” and “Guilt.”  He also collaborated with Mickey M. Bonura in writing a feature length, anthology style, supernatural thriller, The Coffin.
Kind, funny, loving, loyal to family and friends, goofy, Daniel will be dearly missed.  He is survived by half-sister, Sharon Parker Hobby; brother in law, Harris Hobby; half-brother, Richard Parker Jr (Kathy); half-sister, Susan Ingraham Garcia (Jerry); half-sister, Nancy Ingraham; stepfather, Roland Schwartzbeck and his very dear friends–Mickey Bonura, Robert and Kim Reardon, and Mario and Rose Figuero.  He was preceded in death by his beloved father and mother, David Ingraham and Peggy Ingraham Schwartzbeck; his brother, David Hughes Ingraham Jr; and his grandparents, Samuel and Bird Ingraham and Leona Smithson Downs.  There are tentative plans for a memorial service on his birthday, June 22.  Please email
sharonhobby@comcast.net if you wish to be kept informed.  Donations may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association.

It was very nice knowing you Dan. We might have had our difference but you were a pleasure to be around. I learned a lot about medical situations and meds while I was taking care of you. You will be missed.
