Obituary
William “Bill” Clyde Haffner (74), of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away with his loving wife at his side, on Thursday, June 25, 2020, after his decade long battle with cancer. Bill was born on April 20, 1946 in San Antonio, Texas, to William and Gwendolyn Haffner.
Bill was a lover of all instruments and music; during high school he became an active member of the Bethesda Drum and Bugle Corps and marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Orange Bowl and the Philadelphia Mummers Day Parade. After high school Bill began his 50-year career in the automotive industry as an autobody painter. He was a die-hard worker; never a man perceived as lazy. Whatever Bill focused on, whether work, sport or hobbies, he excelled. He drag-raced cars at Capitol Raceways in his twenties, tried out for US Olympic archery team in 1972, and bowled competitively in his later years. He was an excellent bowler and traveled to Las Vegas where he earned a 298-series ring and a 300-series ring. In his spare time Bill enjoyed golf (both playing and watching), boating and woodworking.
Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Paula Darlene Haffner, son William Paul Haffner and his daughter Lauren; daughter Jennifer Haffner Thomas and her husband Jerimy and sons Cooper and Parker. Bill is also survived by his brother Richard “Dickie” Haffner and son Jake; sisters-in-laws Terri Thomas and her children Tony and Tammy; Kimberly de Witte and her husband Erik and children Thea and Annika, along with Vickie Mowinski and husband Jim. Bill is predeceased by his parents William and Gwendolyn Haffner and his maternal aunts Miriam and Gladys Johnson.
Services for Bill are pending, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Lots of love to Darlene, Jennifer and Paul and their families during this trying time.
I remember the last weekend I was able to spend with you, how determined you were to try to move, to try to participate with me & the boys while we were there. That was 6 days before you passed.
Thank you for letting me help you along the way during that hard time. I miss you, and wish I could make you smile & laugh just a few more times.
Love always ~ Jennifer
