Obituary
BRIGHTON, MI Elaine M. Pupilis, 68. With heavy hearts we announce that Elaine M. Pupilis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend, passed away on February 26, 2020, in Daytona, Florida after a brief illness. Elaine lives on in the hearts of her husband Casmere (Chuck) F. Pupilis of 47 years, her son Douglas Pupilis, his wife Heather (Popravsky), and grandson Gavin; son Robert Pupilis, his wife Megan (Mailloux), and grandchildren Evan, Aiden, Myah and Ella; brother Eugene J. Kreda; nieces Lorena S. Kreda and Janet L. Kreda; dear cousins and so many dear friends.
Elaine lit up any room she entered, always bringing a bright smile and kind caring heart. She lived each day in the moment as much as she could and brought out the best in those around her. She loved all kinds of traveling, cruises and the occasional casino, especially when the trip involved visiting her grandchildren. Elaine loved crafting and had most recently started taking Rob Ross classes. She left dozens of scrap books capturing family trips and vacations. Holidays always meant gatherings where Elaine would do so much of the cooking and make sure that everyone was well cared for. She has left such an empty place in our lives.
Elaine was born in Detroit on October 2, 1952. She graduated from Pershing High School in 1970 as class valedictorian and went on to become a paralegal secretary at an influential law firm, and after 10 years, retried to become a mom. She was so devoted to Douglas and Robert, ever-present as they grew up, even becoming a Cub Scout Den Mother. While raising her sons, Elaine also started her own business out of her home providing secretarial services to clients, transcribing doctor’s notes, assessor’s notes, even a book manuscript, while the boys were asleep or at school. When Doug and Robert were teenagers, Elaine took a full-time job at the local hardware store, which launched a 20-year career, moving up through the ranks at Lowes, retiring in 2017 as Assistant Store Manager. Upon retirement Elaine and Chuck became snowbirds in Florida, taking a well-earned break from the Michigan winters. Elaine, we miss you so much, your kindness and your soft touch, you are God’s angel in heaven now, though much too soon. May you rest in peace.
