Obituary
Barry MacDonald Burns, age 82, born on December 8, 1937, earned his heavenly reward on October 16, 2020, after a long battle with dementia and declining health. His wish to remain at home was fulfilled by his loving wife, Rebecca (Boothby) Burns, who lost her best friend and devoted husband of 52 years. He is also survived by his daughter, Kristin Burns, who will always cherish Barry’s protective side during her childhood years; his two grandchildren, Liam and Emma Burns- Sullivan of Reston, Virginia; a brother, Wayne Perreault, of Rhode Island and a brother Ronald Perrreault. He has joined predeceased family members, parents George and Emma (Tufts) Burns; biological mother, Elizabeth (Millar) Perreault; step father, Wilfred Perreault; son, Robert H. Burns; and infant daughter; sister Glenda (Burns) Bolduc and brother Paul Perreault.
Barry was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and moved to Middleton, New Hampshire at a young age. He graduated as president of his class from Farmington High School in 1955. He was a proud United States Marine (1957-1966), and earned Outstanding Fuels Airman of the year (1984) as a sergeant in the Air National Guard. He was a member of Middleton Gospel Church, Rochester Country Club, and Humane Lodge 21 in Rochester, New Hampshire. He retired from Heidelberg Harris in Dover, New Hampshire (2000), where he assembled printing presses. He spent 7 years of his retirement in Reston, Virginia to be near his daughter and grandchildren before moving to The Villages, Florida in 2010.
Barry was a devoted and loving person who cared deeply for his family. He enjoyed traveling, and cherished trips to New Zealand, Ireland, and Scotland where his mother was born and he was able to play golf at St. Andrews. His family and friends will always remember “Bear” for his intellect, quick wit, dry sense of humor, loyalty, and love of country music.
Special thanks for the care, love, and support provided by Melissa’s Place and Care Team through the Veterans Association, and by Compassionate Care Hospice.
No public services will be held. Barry will be interred at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida
SINCERELY,
