Obituary
Ruth Carp Rosow, age 91 1/2 (better known as Ruthie, Ma, and Nana) passed away peacefully in her home on February 8, 2021, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Her memory will carry on with her daughter and son-in law, Paula (Ray) McCartha of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, 6 grandchildren; William (Alexandra), Duncan, Joseph, Abbey Ruth, Elliott, & Dakota, 3 great grandchildren, Berke, Isla Ray, Gwen Mar, 2 Nieces, Heidi Shapiro, Terri Schwartz, Nephews, Rick (Lauren) Schwartz and Randy Schwartz plus many close friends, and former students. Greeting her in heaven were her husband, Elliott Rosow, her parents, Etta Hodes and Joseph Carp, her brother, Lt. Paul Carp, and sister, Clare Schwartz.
Ruthie was born on September 28, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York. She moved to Miami, Florida when she was 11 years old. After working and studying abroad in Heidelberg and Zürich, she graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Accounting/Foreign Trade. Ruthie was recruited on campus by the C.I.A. and served as a cryptographer and translator at the American Embassy in Mexico City. Upon returning to Miami, while selling accounts receivable ledger systems to a wholesale pharmacy in Miami, she met Elliott Rosow (b.1927-d.1984), the love of her life. They settled in Coral Gables and co-owned a computerized retail/mail-order prescription pharmacy, Broadmoor Pharmacy in North Miami for many years. When Elliott passed away, she returned to her “first love”; teaching, becoming the ESOL department chair at Miami Edison Sr High School. She often referred to teaching as the most rewarding career she ever had. She also received her Master’s degree in Education at Florida International University. When she retired from teaching in 1996, she followed her daughter to Central Florida. She remained a die-hard Miami Hurricane football fan and rarely missed a game. Ruthie never met a stranger; she would (and could) carry on a conversation about anything… always listening with her whole heart and most probably speaking a lot of her pride & joy; her grandchildren.
Ruthie had so many charitable organizations that she volunteered with and contributed to. She was still an active member/volunteer at St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church and worried in her final days that she hadn’t made her weekly phone calls to confirm the lay readers and altar servers. She dearly loved the time spent with The Halifax Council of the Blind and all the friends she met there. Her Brother Lt. JG, Paul Ivan Carp was killed in WWII off the Coast of Morocco, at 24 years old, which is why she was a huge supporter of The Kaelee Morrell Foundation. Kaelee was killed in a car accident enroute to her home in New Smyrna Beach in 2017, she was only 21.

Per her wish, she will be cremated and is in the care of Baldwin Brothers, New Smyrna Beach, as she explained “You know how I hate to take up space”.
