Millicent Caulfield Salm
November 12, 1925 – March 14, 2021 π (pi)
Millicent Mary Caulfield Salm who was named after her Mother’s youngest sister was born in Elizabeth, NJ and died at her home in Palm Coast, FL.
A graduate of Westfield High School (NJ), she attended nursing school for a year. Millicent left school to become a saleswoman at Koos Brothers furniture store in Rahway. Millicent married Raymond W. Salm, Jr. on 4/16/49. They moved to Red Bank, NJ and opened Ray’s dental practice where she worked for many years in his business as his Office Manager under the pseudonym of Mrs. Fields. Millicent received her A.A. at Brookdale Community College before they both retired and went on the open road in their RV. They shared 71 years together; raising their 6 children, travelling the USA, the world and finally setting roots in Queen Valley, AZ for 35 years before relocating to FL in 2019 to be closer to family. Millicent was an avid reader, inquisitive learner, amazing Lifelong Learning Facilitator at Mesa Community College for more than 2 decades, President of PTO, Board Member of both the Shrewsbury Borough and the Red Bank Regional School Districts. She was the quintessential voice and advocate for equality for all students.
Millicent is preceded in death by her parents, James Jerome Caulfield and Tryphena Barry Caulfield, and her sister Patricia Caulfield Christie. Millicent is survived by her loving husband of 71 years Dr. Raymond Welch Salm, Jr., her brother Richard Barry Caulfield (Teddie), her children Raymond Welch Salm III, Madelyn “Lynn” Welch Salm-Smith (Dion), Jeffrey Weston Salm (Cathy), Leslie Jane Salm Williams (Hinton), John Bradford Salm (Kim) and Alison Salm Wollman (Henry). She has six grandchildren: Kerry, Justin, Corry, Mick (Astrid), Chris and James and a great grandchild Sonia Lea Wollman.
Millicent was “THE WATCHBIRD” and we will miss her beautiful smile…big time. Services will be private and with family. In loving memory of Millicent, read a good book, take a course at a community college, go on an adventure, and just keep learning.
