Obituary

Bernard Macek, age 91, of Ocala, Florida, who was born in Baltimore, Maryland, died on March 9th surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Treasure Macek, his son Bernard James (Debbie), grandchildren Megan Mummich Baker (Steven), Amanda Macek MacDonald (Mark), great grandchildren Treasure Stamper, Alyssa MacDonald, Mya MacDonald, Steven Baker, Jr., his brother Stanley (Jennifer) and sisters Helen Caldarazzo, Barbara Sampson Damesyn, Geraldine Fersterman and sister-in-law, Genevieve Macek. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Susan Christine Macek in 1985, his parents James and Stella Macek, brothers Walter (Loretta) and Edward and sisters Irene Akczinski, Cecelia Lewandowski, and Theresa O’Hara. Bernie graduated from City College in 1948 and from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 1956 after serving four years in the U.S. Air Force. He and his brother Walter owned and operated Patterson Park Pharmacy from 1960 to 1984. and he was later employed by the State of Maryland at Rosewood Hospital. He loved family get-togethers, meeting old friends, his homing pigeons, playing his accordion and his Polish heritage and most of all his ‘angel’ Treasure who cared for him for six years after he suffered a debilitating stroke. A memorial service will be held later this year in Baltimore.

    When I was a little girl, you would play a song on your accordian called "The Hucklebuck" and I would dance and dance. One of many fond memories. May you rest in peace dear uncle Bernie. Love, your niece Linda

    This man was my ex-father-in-law, one of the greatest men I've ever known. He was kind loving supportive and family-oriented. I will never forget all he did for me and the wonderful family memories!
