Obituary

Brian Charles Bonner, 66 of Edgewater, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021. Brian was born in Flint, Michigan and moved with his family to Edgewater, Florida in 2001. Brian was a graduate of Ferris State University with a degree in Law Enforcement. He spent many years working at McLaren Hospital (Flint, MI) in various roles and was also a small business owner. He most recently worked as a Campus Security Officer at Daytona State College. Brian was a loving father and his daughters were the joy of his life.  He was caring, loyal, and very generous. While he was a man of few words, he was always ready to contribute to the conversation with his dry sense of humor. Brian found enjoyment in the simple things in life, mostly in spending time with his grandsons, playing Yahtzee and being perpetually early.

He is survived by his mother, Ella Bonner of Swartz Creek, Michigan; brother, Paul Bonner (Kathy) of Grand Blanc Michigan; daughters Hilary Bartholdson (Rob) of New Smyrna Beach and Breque Burkhead (Tyler) of Orlando; Grandsons Theo and Jude; many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Bonner and brother Patrick Bonner.

A funeral in his honor will be held on Wednesday, August 18th, 2021 at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Society 1 N Causeway, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169. Visitation 1:00pm, Service 2:00pm.

My condolences to Brian his family. Brian was a great man. My son and I met him a few times and we have been chatting ever since. Even after my move overseas Brian remained a cherished friend. He was kind, funny and always knew what to say to make me feel good. I will truly miss him.

My name is Tom Bader. Along with Mark Beckner the three of us were roommates at Ferris State College back in the mid 70’s. I met Brian through Mark. Both of them were studying Law Enforcement and I was in Business. Brian was a unique individual who was actually quite to himself but between Mark and myself got Brian to open up and feel more comfortable around people he didn’t know. I really think we developed his personality in a positive way during this time. Let’s just say we loosened him up going forward. Unfortunately, after college the three of us went different ways with our careers. Brian couldn’t wait to make a difference in law enforcement in Michigan. Mark ended up in Boulder Colorado and myself in San Jose California. We lost track of each other until recently and now we’re dealing with his passing. To his family, I want you to know how much it means to me that I was able to share those special times with my old roommates. We were unique because our friendship was so real. I will cherish those memories forever.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Brian. He was a good friend and roommate of mine in college. We had lots of laughs and good times together. He had quite the sense of humor. I first met Brian when we both worked at McLaren General Hospital in Flint, MI. We both had gone to junior college and were interested in law enforcement. I discovered the criminal justice program at Ferris State College and talked him into going with me. We were roommates both our junior and senior year. In the dorm our junior year, then in an apartment our senior year with fellow roommate Tom Bader. What a crew. So many memories to revisit this week. We went our separate ways after college, but stayed in touch over the years. I will miss you Brian.

    Your friend forever, Mark Beckner

Although I only worked with him for a short period, Brian had that dry humor and outlook on life that is so common with those who have worked law enforcement - I found him very easy to relate with and talk to. I consider myself blessed to have met and worked with Brian - he was a good, solid man!

Brian was a wonderful man. He had an extremely dry sense of humor and always made me laugh. He was very supportive to me and my son Adam. I will miss his presence in my life.

    Brian.
It was such a great pleasure for me to have met you here, and worked with you at Daytona State College Campus Safety.
We had some good times, shared some great laughs, and broke a lot of bread together many times over the years.
We've shared BBQ's, and Hot Wings, and occasionally some frosty cold cheers too.
Seemed like we always took turns cracking jokes and making each other laugh, while making other people around us either laugh as well, or shake their heads in disbelief. No matter how serious life could get for all of us, whatever we did, or whenever we got together, we always did it with humor and laughter in the mix. (You and I always agreed that it was the best medicine around).
You will be missed my friend, but never forgotten.
Good men are rare these days, but you were one of the best that I have ever met, and I'm grateful for that.
Until we meet again, I will do my best to keep them laughing here.

    Rest Peacefully brother.
    Forever your friend,
    Charles Hinton
