Obituary

Richard Lee Howe, 66, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, passed away on October 9th, 2021, in his home after a brief but incredibly valiant battle against cancer.

Ric was born in Joliet, IL, on November 1st, 1954. He graduated High School from the St. Louis Academy Barber’s Point Naval Air Station in Hawaii. He served in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1986 where he received multiple commendations: Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Good Conduct Award, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and a Humanitarian Service Medal. His time in the Navy, and subsequent work as a contractor in the Private Sector, enabled him to serve his country and travel the world. He loved to travel, and Asia remains at the top of his list of favorite places. In his younger years, he enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams and playing softball; he was also a member of several dart leagues where he was given the nickname “The Sheriff”. He was an airplane mechanic by trade, and his love for aviation continued throughout his life. Those who knew him well knew him to have a serious but slightly quirky sense of humor. Ric was a hard-working man who did his best to provide for his family, and he left this earth with no regrets.

Ric is survived by his three children: Amber Dawn Lott (Dustin), Richard Zachary Howe, and Alexandra Nichole Howe; brother, Michael (Sabina) Howe, and sisters Kimberly Ward and Janet Kettlehake, stepsister Diana Russo, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Ed, sisters Ranada Hayes and  Lynda Howe, and the love of his life, Karen.

Services are scheduled for November 1st 2021 at 10:00 AM at Canaveral National Cemetery.
