Obituary
Chester “Chet” Faszcza, 88, beloved husband of Patricia “Pat” (O’Brien) Faszcza, passed away peacefully at home in Leesburg, Florida with family by his side on February 6, 2022, after a lengthy, hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on March 14, 1933 in Hamtramck, Michigan, the second youngest of 10 children of the late Julius and Josephine (Ciecierska) Faszcza. Chet was a long-time resident of Hatfield, Massachusetts and a 1951 graduate of Smith Academy. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He married the love of his life, Pat, in May 1952. Following his military service, he spent his entire career with New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1990. Chet always took pride in his family, his home life and his work. An excellent provider, he was quite handy and known to fix most anything with electrical tape and plastic ties. He was always quick to impart practical, financial and life advice from his abundant repertoire to those fortunate enough to be within earshot. While raising their five kids, Chet and Pat enjoyed summer family trips to Maine, boating in the nearby Connecticut River, snowmobiling the trails in Hatfield, and enjoying the company of friends. Chet was a member of the Hatfield American Legion Post 344, where he enjoyed many evenings in the Monday Night Pitch League. He loved fishing, ice fishing, and hunting, especially the numerous Vermont deer hunting trips with his longtime best friends.
Chet and Pat spent their retirement years in Florida where they were happiest hosting and making memories with family and friends. Chet was also an active member of the American Legion Post 347 in Lady Lake, the Pennbrooke Veterans Club, and the Pennbrooke Pistoleros target shooting club where he was dubbed “Chippewa Chet”.
In addition to Pat, his cherished wife of 69 years, whom he adoringly called “Precious”, he will be forever remembered by his five children, Susan (Frank) Abarno of The Villages, FL, Deborah (Richard) Skorupski of Leesburg, FL, Stephen (Pamela) Faszcza of Marshfield, MA, Patricia (Glenn) Bradley of Harwinton, CT, Jennifer (Robert) Van Dore of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Ashley (Adam) Clarke, Victoria Abarno, Ryan Faszcza, Taylor Faszcza, Hannah Bradley, Jacob (Jacea) Bradley, Keith (Angie) Skorupski, Adam Skorupski; great-grandchildren, Julian, Ethan, Isaiah, Hannah; sister, Anne Tierney; and several nieces and nephews. Chet is reunited with his dear family members who passed before him, including his grandson, Justin Plouffe, and siblings, Edward, Joseph, John, Helen Cwiakala, Hedwig “Hattie” Kubera, Josephine Kozash, Julie Beller and Alice Harubin.
Chet will be remembered fondly for being a devoted and giving husband, dad, brother, uncle, grampy, great-grampy (“GG”), friend and community supporter.
The family offers their sincere appreciation to the attentive hospice team at VITAS Healthcare for their compassionate care, to the paramedics of Engine 59, Lake County Fire Department, for their respectful aid, and to each other for the endless love, bravery and commitment to one another in life’s journey together.
A burial with military honors will take place at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida at the convenience of the family.
