James (Jim) F. Monville, 82, of Port Orange, Florida formerly of Bay City, Michigan, passed peacefully at home on June 15, 2022. Jim was born in Bay City, Michigan on February 14, 1940, to the late Frederick and Marguerite (LeTourneau) Monville.
Jim worked at the DeFoe Shipyard then joined the U.S. Army. While still serving in the Army, Jim married Dorothy on November 6, 1962. This year would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary. Together they built a home and raised two sons in Bay City, Michigan. In 2000, he retired from General Motors after working in Bay City, Saginaw, and Flint plants where he was known as “Barney”.
Jim enjoyed camping with family and friends, watching T.V, and telling long stories. Jim loved working on cars, racing at the Tri-City and Whittemore Speedways, and watching NASCAR. The highlight of his racing life was driving the NASCAR racing experiences in Daytona Beach and Las Vegas. After retirement, Jim and Dorothy relocated to Port Orange, Florida in 2005, so he could be close to the Daytona International Speedway, work his way into the pits, and obtain photographs with several NASCAR drivers.
Never at a loss for words, Jim loved to laugh and will be dearly missed by his wife Dorothy (Bishop) Monville; sons, Kenneth (Pamela) Monville and Timothy (Lisa) Monville; grandchildren, Jamie, Eric, Austin, and Casey; sister Karen (Rodney) Andrews, brother Joseph (Carolynn) Monville, several nieces, nephews, and many good friends, especially Daniel.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Robert (Bobby) and Richard (Dick) Monville, and sister-in-law, Bonnie (Provo) Monville.
Contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123 or Halifax Health Hospice at 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Florida 32129.
