Obituary
Bonnie Brake Syfrett, born November 16, 1930, in Red Level, Alabama, died Tuesday, May 24, 2022. She had been residing, along with her son, Chuck Syfrett, at Springs of Lady Lake, Florida, She was under the supervision of Compassionate Care Hospice.
Bonnie graduated from Troy State University in 1951 with a BA in Education, earned her MA from Florida State and was certified as a mental health counselor in the State of Florida in 1985. She taught many years before starting her own christian counseling service, Health Designs, in Tallahassee, Florida. Her contributions in the field of mental health were many. Of significant far-reaching effects was her position as Project Coordinator of the Child Abuse Prevention Project. This successful program extended to the counties surrounding Leon County, Florida. Bonnie served on the board for First Christian Heritage Church for many years and was instrumental in starting bible study programs that are still in existence.
She was the last surviving blood relation of Lora Mae Wesley McFerrin Brake and Rufus Harvis Brake. Her surviving relations are: Daughter; Connie Caruthers Wise, Son; Charles (Chuck) Syfrett, Grandson; Rhett Preston Caruthers, Great-grandchildren; Jayden Young, Lahela Young, Audrey Caruthers and Thomas Preston Caruthers, III.
Her ashes will be placed alongside her father, Rufis Harvis Brake at Rock Creek Church Cemetery, Bradley, Alabama.
There will be a Celebration of Life in Tallahassee later in the year with family and friends. Her epitaph reads, “She Blessed All She Served”.
