Obituary: Paul Dean Powell

Paul Dean Powell (born December 11, 1956) died August 20th, 2022 following an extended illness.  The love of his life, Christina White, was at his side, as she has always been; through all his best years.  Those who know and love him will miss him deeply.  His kindness was a special gift.  Dean and Chris lived in Venice, Florida since his retirement from the Ohio State University Hospital.  No one loved music more than Dean and attending a concert with Chris was a favorite activity.

Dean was preceded in death by his mother and father, Martha P. Powell and Lowell D. Powell.  Dean is survived by his beloved Chris, her children; Michelle Jones (Robert) and Jesse White; her siblings, Kathy Hornung, Brenda Pettit (Timothy Jr.), and Michael Hager; and a much loved grandchild Lilianna; and a much anticipated great granddaughter. Dean has also left behind three siblings, Connie J. Cline (Louis Smith) of Columbus, Ohio; Gary D. Powell of McComb, Michigan; and John S. Powell (Katie) of Danville, Kentucky.  He is also survived by numerous first cousins, two nephews, and a niece.

So often these remembrances speak of the sadness of loss.  There is certainly significant sadness in Dean’s passing. There is also the blessing of his body being freed from a very difficult illness which prevented him from doing the things he loved.  Additionally, all those who knew him will always remember his wonderful sense of humor (one cousin would call it silly and we’d all agree), the way he could make a special moment event more special, and as his friends would say, “what a sweet and loving” person he was to all who knew him.

I will miss my friend, co-worker, boss, roommate, pool' table opponent and neighbor. I will miss our friendship. I get a smile every time I remember Dean doing a back flip in my front yard to prove he wasn't getting old. He was 43 at the time! I was totally amazed! You'll be missed. Love Ya. Rest in peace my friend.

Dean was the love of my sister Chris's life. We made wonderful memories together over the years. Dean and Chris loved to travel extensively, go to music concerts, and enjoy all the best foods in life. We will miss Dean's company and are grateful for the time he was part of our family. Dean is healed now with our heavenly father. We will look forward to seeing him again in heaven.
