Richard Arthur LeRoy
July 22, 1935-September 30, 2022
Richard Arthur LeRoy, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 in Florida.
Born in Liberty, NY to parents Kenneth LeRoy and Margaret(Crance). In 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Eggler. Richard and Lorraine remained together for the next 67 years and eventually lived in the same nursing home facility in Florida.
Richard and Lorraine raised two boys, Dane(wife Judy) of New Windsor, NY and Michael(wife Diane) of Newburgh, NY.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, his younger brother Donald of Binghamton, NY, and his younger sister Joan Lewis of Liberty, NY.
Richard is survived by his wife Lorraine, their two sons, and sister-in-law Dawn. He was known as Papa Rich to his five grandchildren, David(wife Jessica), Kristina(husband Brian Yates), Ashley, Christopher, and Bryan. Two great-grandchildren, Cassidy and John Yates. He also had many nieces and nephews.
Richard spent time in the Naval Reserve and moved his family to Newburgh in 1961 and worked for the Ford Motor Company in Mahwah, NJ, until the factory closed in 1980.
Richard was best known for his love of nature. He hiked every mile of the Appalachian trail in NYS. Also, hiking up many mountains and down into caves. He taught his sons many things about camping and fishing. Mostly he instilled a good work ethic, take care of your family, and spend time together. Be respectful to others and never, ever curse. Anytime we were hiking with our Dad, and we came to a fork in the trail, he would ALWAYS take the trail up the mountain, and although this trail was difficult, the view from the top was always worth it. That is what we will remember best.
A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
May your memories give you comfort and bring you peace,
With love,
Smoky, Betty & family
