Obituary
Edward Lewis Meeds, 94, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida died peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Edward was born January 3, 1930 in Youngstown, Ohio. He lived in Youngstown and Wheeling, WV before moving to Marco Island, FL in 1980, and later to New Smyrna Beach, FL. On May 17, 1979 Edward married Rebecca Kay Crabtree and they enjoyed scuba diving, traveling and their many dogs over the years. Edward loved to fly and went sky diving for the first time at the age 85 and again at 93 and rode the New York New York roller coaster in Las Vegas on his 90th birthday. Edward joined the US Army in 1950 serving as basic training instructor and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was a sheet metal worker and after moving to Florida he started his own lawn service and handyman business until retirement. He loved being active, playing racquetball, going to the YMCA, and tinkering around the house. Edward was proceeded in death by his wife, Rebecca, parents, Mary (nee’ Lewis) and John Meeds, his brother, William Meeds, sister, Edna Mae Benton, and son-in-law, Dale Williams. He is survived by his daughters, Heather Williams of Edgewater, FL and Caroline Ristau and her husband, Eric of Lake Worth, FL; son, Tom Meeds and his wife, Kathie of Youngstown, Ohio, and his beloved German Shepherd Maxine. His granddaughters, Emily Williams, Grace Williams, Kate Ristau, Tina Meeds and Stephanie Meeds-Jones. Memorial donations may be made to Halifax Hospice and /or The Humane Society.
