Obituary
Charles “Charlie” Thomas Goetsch, 84, of Spring Hill, TN and North Fort Myers, FL passed away after a long illness on June 25, 2019 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, FL.
Born in Irvington, NJ, he attended Irvington High School and Newark College of Engineering. He served in, and was honorably discharged from, the Air National Guard. Employment with Blonder-Tongue Laboratories began as Manager of the Service Department and progressed to assisting in the design and overseeing of installation of large scale electronics projects in the United States and Europe. Charlie went on work for the Woodbridge Township Parks Department until his retirement in 1998.
Bowling, golf, cooking (well known for his cheesecake) and casino gambling were his passions. He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus in Iselin, NJ; was named Grand Knight in 1977 and Knight of the Year in 1982.
Retirement moved Charlie to Punta Gorda, FL where, after surviving Hurricane Charley together in 2004, he proposed to and married his wife Mary in Las Vegas. They moved to Spring Hill, TN in 2008 and spent summers in Florida.
Survived by his sister Arlene Williams of Stayton, Oregon and predeceased by parents Herman and Marie (Logan) Goetsch; and brothers Herman and Bill.
Beloved Husband, Father, and PopPop, he will be Forever Cherished by his wife Mary (DeGroat) Goetsch; daughters, Suzanne (Bill) Bettermann of Bethlehem, PA and Kathleen Santiago (Kiernan Monohan) of Lynnville, TN; and grandchildren Erika, Danielle, and Kristen Bettermann; Juliana, Claudia, and Benjamin Santiago. He is missed by his 10 lb. lap buddy, his dog, Rue.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to Celebrate his Life and Friendship. If you would like to make a contribution, the family suggests that donations be made in Charlie’s name to Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, FL.
