Obituary
COCKRELL, Aletta Kennett, 78, of Richmond passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021, with her children by her side.
Born in McComas WV, Mrs. Cockrell was the widow of her husband of 35 years, Hunter Gates Cockrell, Jr., and the daughter of the late James Everett and Inez Kennett. She was also predeceased by her siblings Autholene Kennett, Justine Dingus, Huey Kennett and Magda Ferrell.
Mrs. Cockrell held numerous roles in property management and banking in her career, but her favorite job was grandmother. As a long-time member of Seventh Street Christian Church, she served as a communion steward.
She is survived by her children, Veronica T. Hinckle (David) and H. Allen Thackston (Jill); stepchildren Charles H. Cockrell (Carolyn), Elizabeth C. Bennett (Christopher), Ann W. Cockrell and Thomas S. Cockrell (Julie); ten grandchildren, Amanda and Emily Hinckle, Mason and Aaron Thackston, John, Hannah, Cadence, Reid, and Adeline Cockrell and Annemarie Bennett; and one great-grandchild, Enzo Cockrell.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Richmond SPCA, 2519 Hermitage Rd., Richmond, VA 23220 or a charity of your choice.
