Obituary
Anna-Mae Haladay (90), originally from Queens, NY, went home to the Lord on Saturday, September 23, 2023, after a short illness.
Anna-Mae was an independent, intelligent, and loving person who knew how “not to sweat the small stuff”. She inspired family and friends with her peaceful confidence and genuine happiness coming from her devout Catholic and absolute faith in God. Anytime she left her home, she told her beloved dog “Anna-Mae is going to church now”, assuring them she’d be back soon. At family gatherings, she enjoyed meeting the newest members of the family and hearing about her niece’s and nephew’s activities.
Anna Mae received her education from Hunter College and Columbia University. She enjoyed 30 years of teaching at the elementary level and retired in order to lovingly care for her aging parents. In her retirement, she maintained contact with her teacher-colleagues and the parents of children that she taught. An adventurer in her younger days, she traveled to places far and wide, and in her later years, she enjoyed watching a good old technicolor musical or playing Rummikub with her friends. The professionals who assisted her in her later years described her as feisty, happy-go-lucky, and kind to everyone.
Anna-Mae was predeceased by her parents, and sister, Elaine.
A Catholic funeral Mass for Anna-Mae will be held at 11:00 am on October 21, 2023, at St. Francis of Assisi – Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
