Obituary
Anna Putra, age 87, of The Villages passed away peacefully with family at her side on Friday, December 27, 2019. She was born in Croatia on May 14, 1932 of German parents.
As an 18-year old displaced person from World War II, she courageously emigrated alone from Austria on a transport ship for 11 days in 1951 to be reunited with her husband Anton whose family emigrated to America the previous year. They proudly earned their US citizenship and lived and raised their five children in the Akron Ohio area until coming to The Villages in 1997. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.
They truly lived the immigrant’s American Dream and recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on December 24. They were inseparable and were holding hands up to the very end.
She is survived by her husband Anton (Tony) Putra, sister Kathi Lellesch and brother Peter Muller both in Germany. She also leaves daughters Marie D’Emidio (Russ D’Emidio) and Betty Nye of The Villages FL, Linda Champion and Nancy Putra of Sun City, AZ and son Michael Putra of Huron OH. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Tony, Andrea, Gretchen, Danny, Anton and two great-grandchildren: Abby and Cassie. One other grandchild Jeremy pre-deceased her.
Anna was an accomplished knitter and crocheter. So talented that she could duplicate any item by just looking at it. She was a member of the German Club and Ohio Club. She loved to play cards, listen to music, and dance. In her younger years you would see her throwing strikes on the bowling alleys carrying a 160 average and getting three holes-in-one in Executive golf. She was a fantastic cook and her schnitzel, Christmas cookies and strudel will be sorely missed. But most of all she loved her family and enjoyed their company.
Finally, with Angels calling for her, she is at peace.A celebration of Anna’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated to the Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares FL 32778. Their kindness, care and compassion were very comforting.
