Obituary

Born on February 28, 1929, to parents Clarence J. and Hazel P. Rounds, she joined her sister, Marjorie, in Lockport, NY.  Barbara (93) passed peacefully on May 14, 2022 in Port Orange, FL.

She is survived by her children, Peter Pimental (Terri) of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Tracey McGovern (Jay) of Taylors, SC, Christopher Pimental of Rockville, MD and Bruce Pimental (Evelyn) of Paris, TX, and her surviving grandchildren, Michael, Patrick (fiancé, Cori), Kerry, Brittany and Ciara. She is pre-deceased by her ex-husband, Leonard Pimental.

Barbara was a creative and generous woman. After receiving her Art degree from Rochester Institute of Technology, she moved to Washington, D.C. to begin her job in the advertising department of Woodward & Lothrop store. In 1950 she painted a cheerful Santa Claus and sold it to the Hallmark Company for use on their Christmas cards. She continued her art journey by inscribing calligraphy on diplomas and honed her watercolor talent by attending weekly classes at the Senior Center in Rockville, Maryland. Barbara always had several paintings in process at once. She displayed her art throughout her home and enjoyed painting custom pieces for her family.

Barbara loved to bake and cook, always trying new recipes. Her tradition of baking cut-out Christmas cookies, iced and decorated, enough to fill the large Charles Chip can, is continued today by her children and grandchildren.

As an accomplished seamstress, Barbara enjoyed sewing clothes for her children, grandchildren, and herself. She designed and made her daughter’s wedding dress. Barbara was a dedicated gardener and avid reader. She loved all dogs and cats.

When invited to dinner out or to go on an adventure, Barbara was always ready. She loved to travel and embraced life in Heidelberg, W. Germany from 1968-1972. She enjoyed spending her winters in New Smyrna Beach with her youngest son, Pete and his wife Terri and moved there in 2018.

A celebration of her life will be held in July. Barbara will be interred in her grandmother’s plot in Cold Spring Cemetery, Lockport, NY later. Donations to VITAS Healthcare of New Smyrna Beach, FL, or to your favorite humane society chapter are greatly appreciated.
