Obituary
Barbara Jean Wyatt, almost 82, passed away on April 9, 2024 after a long illness. Her final moments were spent peacefully in her home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida surrounded by family. Barbara was born on April 22, 1942,Earth Day, to Victor and Lottie Miner in Rome, NY. Barbara loved to travel, a dreamer immersed with faith, hope and creativity.
She traveled the United States and abroad as an Air Force wife for 20 years. In 1976, she settled in Utica, NY to raise her family while working at John Hancock and continuing her education. She was a writer, artist, musician, and loved to dance. Barbara had unlimited love and compassion for family and community. She was a great Mom, an advocate for the environment and politician for the people of Utica and the Mohawk Valley. In 1987, she retired to Sarasota, FL.
Barbara is predeceased by her parents, brother Robert Miner, and loving husband of 40 years, Henry J. Wyatt. She is survived by her devoted children Dane (Summer Hollingsworth), Terry Lindsey, and Stephanie her incredible caregiver and companion; Grandchildren, Sean Lindsey (Amber Wilson), Lexi Varela (Alex), and Kira Diehl; Great-grandson Cullen Lindsey and another one on the way; best
friend and dear sister, Diane Koester (Merlin); many loving and supportive relatives, including Dale Wyatt, Carol Miner and Christine Nougeim; and our family’s beloved Aunt Lucy, Beatrice Pettinelli. A private family wake was held at home in the hours after Barbara’s passing.
A memorial service will be held at The Chapel El Santuario de Chimayó near Santa Fe, NM in July. Barbara’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life not the sadness of her passing. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Barbara’s memory for Earth Day. The family would like to thank Barbara’s medical care team and Hospice for their compassion
and care these past several months.
