  Winter Park Artist, Betty Armantrout, dies at age 87 Betty Lou Armantrout, a Winter Park resident for 67 years, passed away on November 19th. Betty was the wife of the late land developer Henry Maxwell Armantrout. In 1945, as newlyweds, Betty and Max moved to Winter Park from Champaign, Illinois. They always called Winter Park home but enjoyed traveling in their motor home and residing part of the year in Park City, Utah. Max and Betty were the developers of Winter Park Estates and Betty had the task of naming every street in the subdivision. Betty and Max were owners and developers of Chapel Hill Cemetary, Aloma Forsythe Center, Semoran Shopping Plaza and were founding members of Interlachen Country Club. Betty was an acomplished artist studying painting and sculpture her entire life. In the late 1950's and early 1960's Betty would often visit with the wheelchair bound sculptor Albin Polasek in his Winter Park studio, which is today the Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens. Polasek instructed Betty and critiqued her sculptures. Betty's sculpture of the "Madonna' graced the pages of the Loch Haven Art Center 1963 calendar. Betty's paintings and sculptures have been displayed for many years in local galleries, private collections and in 1962 she won the "Purchase Award" in the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival. Today there remains a painting in progress on the easel in her home art studio of her one and only sister, Verna Lee Hilkene who resides in Palm Springs, California.   In the 1960's and 70's, Betty was a Pink Lady at the newly constructed Winter Park Memorial Hospital, a member of the Junior Service League, a docent for the Morse Museum of Art and fashion model, often pictured in the newspaper for Dickson & Ives and Eve Proctor's. At Saint John's Lutheran Church, Betty assisted with the Children's Choir and was the Bible School art teacher. Betty was on the Board of Directors of La Amistad and she always loved doing creative art projects with young people.   Betty is survived by her family: Sister: Verna Lee Hilkene, California and Michigan. Children: Sue Jovi (Ron Goluba) Winter Park, Chris Sangster (Doug Sangster), Winter Park, Hank Armantrout (Brith Otterud) Salt Lake City, Utah. Grandchildren: Hillary Jovi (Jennifer Hasemann) Maitland, Aimee Scharr (David Scharr) Longwood and Daniel Sangster of Winter Park. Great-Grandchildren: Avery, Cloey, Brayden, Ethan and Cormac. Nephews in California, Michael Hilkene, (Jeanine, Children: Amber, Beau and Sean) Scott Hilkene, (Sarah, Children: Cullen, Clancey, Wyatt and Jake) and her niece Lynn Hilkene, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
