Obituary

Beverly LaBadia (nee Herrmann) passed away peacefully on February 1st surrounded by her loving family in Sarasota, Florida. She was 81 years old.

Beverly was born and raised on Staten Island, New York. She attended New Dorp High School where she met her high school sweetheart and husband of 62 years, Peter LaBadia. Following high school, she pursued a career as a fashion model in Manhattan. After the arrival of her daughter, Laura, she was a fulltime mom before returning to work part time as a teacher at the Barbizon School of Modeling.

In the early 1970’s Beverly and her family left Staten Island for greener pastures in Flemington, New Jersey. It was there that Beverly became an avid organic gardener long before it was fashionable. She won many blue ribbons at the State Fair for her produce and for her beautiful handmade quilts.

In the 1980’s Beverly returned to her first love, fashion, but this time on the retail side of the business. She managed the Talbots store in Princeton for many years and then became a manager at The Charter Club retail shop.

In the late 1990’s Beverly and her husband decided to move out West and ventured to Las Vegas where Beverly managed a Jones New York store for many years until she retired.

In 2002 Beverly began her most favorite role in life, that of a grandmother to Jack MacDonald and his sister, Ella.  She showered them with enormous amounts of love and their favorite homemade cookies.

Beverly and her husband Peter moved to Venice, Florida in 2009. Beverly loved spending mornings walking along the shores of the Gulf and truly enjoyed the camaraderie she found as a volunteer at the Red Cross of Sarasota.

She loved Frank Sinatra, Barry Manilow, Tom Jones, trips to Hawaii, The Nutcracker, walking through the Bluebells in England, Doris Day movies, Queen Elizabeth II and all things tropical. She will be remembered for her incredible culinary skills, impeccable dress sense and her love of family.

Beverly is survived by her loving husband, Peter LaBadia; daughter Laura MacDonald; son-in-law John MacDonald and cherished grandchildren, Jack and Ella. Also survived by her son, Joseph and nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Evelyn Herrmann and her brother Fred.

Services were private. Contributions in her memory can be made to The Camphill School https://camphillschool.org

Bev had a rare talent when it came to fashion, food, quilting, and sewing. She ran circles around people with twice as much experience and fancy educations. Furthermore, she could apply her skills to marketing and managing quality clothing stores because she didn't sell to people but coached them in developing their style. It helped that she was always kind and generous in word and deed. Except the time the police officer stopped her on the way to work during rush hour in NJ and she told him that everyone was going that speed and his time would be better spent chasing actual criminals rather than working women, and she did not get a ticket!
