Obituary
Bret Matthew Wallace, 65, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024. Bret was born on August 15, 1958, in Detroit, MI. He was the son of William R. and Darlene Y. (Fillingham) Wallace. Bret was a 1976 graduate of Warren Woods High School and attended University of Southern Florida. He worked mainly in the hospitality field and real estate. He retired in 2020. Way too young, Bret succumbed to the devastating disease of Alzheimer’s.
He is survived by his four siblings: Bruce Wallace, Kim (Greg) Bates, Tam (Jeffrey) Bradford and Jill (John) Herndon and nieces and nephews Mike (Janet) Bates, Ali Herndon, Michael Bradford, Cole Herndon, Jack Herndon and great nephew and niece Broden Bates and Brixten Bates.
Bret focused on a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy foods and being very active. He was passionate about golf, boating and biking. He would regularly ride his bike 20–40 miles a day, four to five times a week.
Bret was a very independent free spirit whom embraced life to its fullest His smile could light up a room and his magnetism was almost impossible to resist. He dabbled in modeling and acting in his early years. Although Bret remained a bachelor, he loved many and was loved by all. His charm and funny anecdotes kept us laughing and he was a great storyteller. Bret loved his family, animals and kids…just an all around great guy!
We will always carry him in our hearts.
Family will have a private ceremony.
