Obituary
Carlton A. Simonsen, age 94, died peacefully surrounded by family in New Smyrna Beach, FL on June 27, 2022. He was the loving husband of the late Clare Bohl Simonsen. Carlton was born on May 25, 1928, in Portchester, NY, the son of the late Leonard and Esther Simonsen. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Botkins and Caryn Simonsen; two sons, Glenn Simonsen and Kurt Simonsen; one son-in-law, CJ Botkins; two daughters-in-law, Michele Simonsen and Brooke Simonsen;12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Carlton attended Portchester Public Schools and was a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He was a retired illustrator, having worked for the Associated Press for 34 years. While there, he illustrated feature articles and drew ‘Junior Editors’, a daily educational panel for children. He was the last person at the AP to illustrate by hand and his work appeared in many national publications, including The Saturday Evening Post, Ladies Home Journal and Parade Magazine. Carlton was also a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1945 to 1952.
Carlton will be warmly remembered on Friday, July 15 from 5 to 7 PM at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk, CT, Funeral services will take place on Saturday, July 16, 9:30 AM at the Magner Funeral Home as well.
