Obituary
Carmen Gladys Velasquez Medero Maisonet was born September 4th, 1947 in the city of Carolina on the Isla del Encanto, Puerto Rico. She was born to her loving Papi Heleno Velasquez and her mother Ramona Medero, and she was the prized granddaughter of her beacon of light Demetria Velasquez-Ocasio. She was an eternal student who fervently consumed every morsel of knowledge the world had to muster. She traveled the world, carving a path of her own where upon the ground yet to be trodden, a path never revealed to the meek. Her fierce tenacity allowed her to courageously shatter any obstacles that tried to impede her. She brought 10 daughters to this earth, 30 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. She had a special part in raising two grandchildren as her own. One of the most powerful and intelligent wordsmiths, she cultivated in us a love of literature and nature. With piercingly clear chartreuse orbs, she saw you for who you really were, for better or for worse. Her food was a tangible expression of her love and it warmed your soul. She carried on Papi Heleno’s legacy, and was a master horticulturist. She sang the words of her soul, a sweet yet melancholic melody we will forever hear in the howling of the winds. She breathed life into the world, even to her very last breath. We lay to rest on July 25, 2020, our Princess of Wisdom.

Although we are miles apart.

Just as fast as I can.

Ain't no mountain high enough,
Ain't no valley low enough,
Ain't no river wide enough,
To keep me from getting to you babe.
I’m going to miss you mommy. You will forever be my first love, tu niña bonita. Love you with all my heart and soul.
I will always remember her strength, love and the wisdom she has shared with us all. Rest in blissful peace Grandma. ❤️❤️
