Charlie and I were running buddies and members of the same fraternity up at Florida State University in the 1950s. He was always so pleasant, funny, and was an outstanding listener. I am sure that helped when he became community relations officer with the police. I was able to visit him in his assisted-living home a few months ago and we had a chance to enjoy some fond memories together. He was one of those important souls that gives a little brightness to our lives.
