Obituary

On Sunday, December 2, 2018, Charles E. Waldron, loving husband and father of five, passed away at age 86.  He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps from 1955 to 1957.  Charles was born on June 7, 1932 in Jersey City, NJ and later moved to Bayonne.  He graduated from St. Peter’s Prep School and went on to earn his BA from St. Peter’s College, Jersey City in 1954.  He worked as a sales manager for Ryerson Steel, Jersey City for 30 years.  On June 13, 1954 he married Marilyn DeCarlo.

Charles had a passion for serving his community and it was in this capacity that he pushed forward many initiatives which benefited the city of Bayonne.  He served as a Board Trustee at the Bayonne YMCA and also as the VP for the Bayonne Board of Education.  He was a founding member of several organizations including the Bayonne YMCA Mermaids and Dolphins Parents Assoc., the Bayonne Pop Warner Football League, where he also coached, the Bayonne H.S. Charlie and Marilyn became “snowbirds” in January 1988 after his retirement.  He then became active serving his new community of Fort Myers Beach, FL.  He pursued civil activities and was also active in Church of the Ascension, where he was a lecturer, as well as Eucharistic minister for many years.  He was also a member of the Society of St. Vincent DePaul.  He fostered food and clothing drives in his community for the migrant workers of Bonita Springs.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. and Catherine, and grandson, Charles James.  He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn,  his five children and their spouses,, Pamela (Arthur) Brattlof, Charles T., Thomas (Susan), Michael and Robyn (Robert) Graettinger, eight grandchildren, Cody (Georga), Tucker (Theresa), Amanda, Rylee and Shane Waldron, Bobby and Michael (Carly) Zekanoski and Reanna Graettinger and one great-granddaughter, Jordyn Waldron.
