Obituary

Charlotte Skelton Klumph, 89, of New Smyrna Beach passed away peacefully at home on January 1,2017. Her husband of 53 years, George Klumph pre-deceased her in 2000.

Born in Manhattan, Putnam County, Indiana to Glenn C. and Blanche (Roberts) Skelton in 1927 Char had one older sister, Gwendolyn Jean (Hungerford), deceased. While attending Purdue University in West Lafayette, Char met George Bradley Klumph and they were subsequently married in Greencastle, Indiana, December 1947.

The couple relocated to George’s hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina and completed their college education at the University of North Carolina. Char was awarded her Masters Degree in 1969 from Rollins College in Orlando.

Char began her public school teaching career with Brevard County in the mid-1960’s and continued with the Montgomery County, Maryland public school system until she retired in 1989. During her career Char taught first and second grade.

Char is survived by her four children, daughters Susan (Richard, deceased) Wade, Marilyn (John) Hardesty, and Caroline (Bill) Peters of Port Orange and son Ed Klumph of New Smyrna Beach, grandchildren, Amy, Nick, Seth, Trisha, and Ryan, great-grandchildren, Christie, Bradley,

Hannah, JR, Cole, Parker, Emerson, and Jaxson, and great-great-grandchildren, Zoey and Xander. 

A memorial service will be held at St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church, 4220 Saxon Drive, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169, on Saturday, February 18th at 2pm. A reception at the church will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church.

    Ed, I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I did not know about it until I read the paper today. I know the pain you are going through. I lost my husband Nov.26, my best friend Jan 6. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers are with you and your family at this time. But I find LIFE goes on with GOD in it. Blessings,
