Obituary

Daniel Lawrence Elwart, age 54, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida passed on Monday, March 18, 2013. He was born in Fresno, California, August 4, 1958. His family relocated to Half Moon Bay when he was 9 years old, where he grew up and graduated from Half Moon Bay High School. Upon graduation Dan enlisted in the Army. When he returned to civilian life, he was employed with Federal Express in Montana until he elected to move to New Smyrna Beach about 20 years ago. Here he worked in the condominium maintenance field. Dan enjoyed outdoor activities with his beloved Basset Hound, BoBo, until BoBo expired in 2008. He also liked to fish occasionally. Dan is survived by his brother Tom Elwart of Leesburg, his brother Jim Elwart and niece Amanda Elwart of Gainesville, and sister and brother-in-law Linda and Bert Knox of Port Orange. He is also survived by his cousin Susan Carter, and her husband Chuck of Ventura, California. Dan is pre-deceased by his parents Robert and Mary Jane Elwart of New Smyrna Beach.  A memorial service will be held for Dan on Monday, March 25, at 2:00 p.m., at 312 Hillman Street, New Smyrna Beach.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Basset Rescue of Florida (BassetRescueFlorida.com).

    My heart is heavy today, I was so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. We grew up together on Grand Blvd in Half Moon Bay, and went all through school together.     My deepest sympathy to the family of dan elwart. Dan was a friend of mine through a working relationship at diamond head condo.We always enjoyed discussing the nascar races and other sports.Dan quietly went about his job in a most professional manner,always ready to help at a moments notice.He often spoke warmly of his family.He will me missed. "vaya con dios" Amigo.

    We were saddened to hear of the death of Dan. He was a really good guy and had the respect of so many at Diamond Head Point where Dan worked for many years. Our sympathy to the family.
