Obituary
David (Herby) Harrod, 78 of Port Orange Florida passed away peacefully on March 13, 2019. He was born in Ascot, England March 20, 1940 to Gladys and Thomas Harrod.
Herby worked a 6 year apprenticeship with Rolls Royce and became an Experimental Lathe Machinist. Herby and his wife Janice moved from England to Westfield, MA in 1966 and was recruited by Berkshire Industries in Westfield, MA for his skills as a Lathe Machinist in which he mentored many of his fellow employees. In 1995 Herby and Jan moved to Daytona Beach, Florida. Herby was an avid golfer and played Semi-Professional Soccer in England and Massachusetts. He coached Soccer at Westfield High School for several years as well as Westfield Youth Soccer, to this day he his still remembered by his players. Herby also volunteered his time as a Starter for the Westfield YMCA Swim Team. He was a very proud Melha Shriner in Springfield, MA and also a member of Port Orange Eagles 4089. Herby touched many lives through his kindness and generosity.
Herby is survived by his wife, Janice for 53 years and his daughters Lisa Woelper and husband David, Kim Fuller and husband Doug. His grandsons David Woelper and wife Jackie Woelper, Timothy Woelper, Drew Fuller and his Great Granddaughter Lucy Woelper. He also leaves his sister Sally Lapworth and his nephews, nieces and great nephews and niece in England.
A Celebration of Life will be held at his home in Port Orange on Sunday, March 17th from 2-4 pm. In accordance with Herby’s wishes donations can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
Herbie will be dearly missed. Loved talking to him and when I got his message he was very pleased and so was I.. Accept my deepest sympathy and will keep you in my prayers.
