Hey Boss. It’s been a while. I thought of you when we dropped our younger son Chase off at ERAU in Daytona and when we got home I sent you a long email to catch up. Not like you to not email back. I didn’t want to do the search - but, you passed while I was deployed. Remember holding Jake who wasn’t even one yet at our pre-deployment brief? He is an Ensign now on the USS STERETT in San Diego! You’d like him - he would have fit in well in the BRADLEY wardroom. Chase is a Mech Eng major at ERAU. I finally retired. 30 years. You were one of the most influential and best COs I ever had. Your example is the one I wanted to most emulate. I like to think you would have been proud of me. I can’t tell you how many times I thought, “What would Captain Wright do?” The right thing, of course. Fair winds and following seas, Boss.

I only met David later in life in San Antonio as he made trips to visit his father William (Bill) Wright. But for the limited times we did meet and the conversations we had, they were always pleasant and enjoyable. We shared one thing in common from the start, that being his father who was my good friend. I, like David, like my son and Davids brother Stephen, as well has their dad Bill are all retired military. This in itself puts us all in it's on brotherhood. I really hated to hear of Davids announcement that he had cancer. But through it all he remained upbeat and never let on of his pending plight. I enjoyed David and I miss him! Rest in peace with gentle winds at your stern.

    David,
I will always remember you with a huge grin on your face whenever you were with your dear family, when we were all camping, hiking, going to Plymouth Plantation, sleigh rides in Maine, visits in Newport, Rhode Island, and Long Beach, California. OUr family trip to Lake Tahoe was the best! You were kind and generous: so much so, you fed my cat in the morning for me, and as Betty reminded me on Monday, you hated cats!!! This goes to show you how wonderful a person you were.
Rest In Peace, my friend. You are already missed.

I will miss David and his wonderful personality. He was a dear friend that I look forward to seeing for eternity.

Psalm 33:12-15, Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. The people He has choosen for His own inheritance. The Lord looks down from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. From the place of His dwelling He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth. He forms the hearts of men individually.

David has a heart of shimmering gold.

David, it has been a struggle for me to put into words how I feel about our time together as neighbors in Virginia. One could not have had a better friendship than I had with you. I was just recalling our time during our “snow brigade” to clear all driveways in the neighborhood. I wore insulated orange gloves and you cautioned me to keep them hidden from view whenever a plane flew above. We did not want to confuse any pilots that the cul-de-sac was an airport, and I was directing a landing. Thank you for all our motorcycle time throughout the back roads of Virginia, making capicolo and later relaxing with a glass of wine laughing how plastic pink flamingos got into your home. One last comment. One day you and I noticed a rose growing through a knothole in my fence into your yard. It was red and immediately we knew it was a sign of love as a result of Ava’s birth. I still have the picture we took of that rose. Rest in peace my dear friend. Love you. Tony

David was my Porch Pal and debating partner for 3 great years of companionship. His endless stories of travel and service enthralled me. He was an officer straight out of central casting, calm, smart, solid. Anchors aweigh.

I knew Betty and David from high school and when they started out as a couple. Though we eventually lost touch, I did reconnect with Betty several years ago and was told about David's illness. Just today, I learned of his passing. Betty and David's long-lasting relationship - rare nowadays - is a testament to their faith and love. My deepest sympathy to Betty and all of the family.

    Dear Friends and Family,

I consider David to be one of my great friends. His heart was enriched because of his belief.
    Psalm 33:12-15
Blessed the nation whose God is the LORD.
The people He has chosen for His own inheritance.
The Lord looks down from heaven and sees all the sons of men.
From the place of His dwelling He looks, on all the inhabitance of the earth. He fashions their hearts individually.

David is my brother and one of the finest men I have ever known. He is a true gentleman and I mean that literally. He is my older brother, often my hero and always my friend. He taught me many things, always with love in his heart. He was also a serious pain in the butt on occasion, but he was worth it. Godspeed brother, until we meet again. I love you David.

David was part of my Bible study family and a big part of my business family. During his cancer journey he volunteered in my office after we suffered a significant electronic failure. He was such a blessing and faithful to the task. He also worked for us during a busy season processing paperwork and assembled all the new furniture that we ordered, always willing to complete any task I put in front of him. Through him we met their daughter who was starting her career and she worked for us for over a year before moving back to VA. We have missed him and hated seeing him suffer. We now rejoice that, while we feel a temporary loss, we didn't "lose" him! Someone's not lost if you know where they are! And we know David is with our Lord in paradise and we will see him again in a little while.

David blessed Donna and me with his work here on the campus of the Rio Grande Bible Institute, in Edinburg, Texas, when he came to work with what I have called the "Florida Men." That included Bill, Kent, Alan, Mark, and Gerry. I prayed for David on a daily basis by name and continue praying for Betty during this time of grief. I too look forward when we will be reunited for eternity.

I will miss David so much! I spent many evenings with him in bible study. Furthermore, I had so much respect for him. I spent a few years in the Navy, and never knew a Captain that loved the Lord as David did. He was a true disciple for the Word of the Lord. His support of our country by his 30 years of Navy service and the strength he exhibited during such troubled times, expressed his love for the Lord and helped many of us find new strength in our Lord.

David, I look forward to our reunion in Heaven.
