Dean Keith Stewart died Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at 4:20 AM. He died in the Vitas Hospice
facility in Mt. Dora, Florida after several months of Hospice care for Heart failure. He was born
on April 16, 1943 in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Oakdale, PA.
He was predeceased by both his parents and four of his six siblings.
Dean joined the army in October of 1964, served in White House communications,
accompanied the President of the United States on several trips and was honorably discharged
December 1968.
He received his BS degree with a major in math from the University of Jacksonville.
He accepted a position of General Manager at The Pittsburgh Machine and Supply and was
able to build up the company even though the economy of the area was greatly affected by the
demise of and relocation of the steel industry. In 2002 he arranged the sale of the company.
While in Pittsburgh, Dean earned his Captain’s license and purchased a ship that he had
docked along the Allegheny River and he and several others lived in their houseboats
alongside the ship. He also enjoyed memberships in several social clubs in the area.
Dean was married twice. The second time to his beloved wife, Darlene Flynn, of Pittsburgh, PA.
Unfortunately, Darlene died in December of 2002 and Dean decided to leave the area.
He bought a motorhome and travelled through the south staying for a month or two at a time
until he decided to buy a house and settle in Lady Lake, FLorida. Here he enjoyed his last
years, riding his golf cart in the woods behind his house with his faithful Australian Ridgeback,
Fudge, in tow.
