Obituary

Delmar Jesse Templeton passed away the morning of January 1st, 2024 peacefully in his home while surrounded by his family.  Del is survived by his wife, Mary Templeton, and children, Jessica & Caleb Burke, Chelsea & Mike Baughman, and Jon & Cindy Templeton and his grandchildren, Aiden, Collin, Zach, Cash, Amelia and baby nugget.  Del selflessly and proudly served in Vietnam and had a strong connection to his service.  He saved a special place in his heart for veterans.  Del had many careers in his life, but the one that brought him the most joy was his ten years as a bus driver for special-needs students.  Del served his community through local politics, encouraged everyone to vote and volunteered with local schools and community organizations.  Del loved biking (especially paired with B&B!), geocaching, Myers Rum, and most of all spending time with his family and friends.  Everywhere they lived, Del and Mary built deep-rooted and lasting friendships.  In his last days, Del was honored by the dozens of messages sent by friends and family sharing memories full of love, respect, appreciation, laughter, and the meaningful impact Del had in their lives.

I'm writing this after witnessing the beautiful Celebration of Life of our beloved Del and our love for the entire Templeton family. Del held a very special place in Joe and my hearts. So many shared family vacations and then later in life, couples vacations. Del was always interested in our children's lives and always was so proud of the beautiful family he and Mary created. So many favorite memories, but it all comes down to that quote that ends with "people will not forget how you made them feel" and we were fortunate enough to feel loved by Del. Our deepest sympathies and love to the Templeton family.

Del always had a smile on his face and a kind word. And that voice - he should have been on the radio or tv! We haven’t seen him in many years, but we were sad to learn of his passing.
Our prayers are with all the Templeton family.

    Mary and family,
We are deeply saddened by the loss of your beloved Del. We were privileged to know Del for 7 years but it felt like we knew him a for a lifetime. He was introduced as the “mayor” of Punta Gorda and helped to familiarize us with all of the goings on in the community. Del was always willing to help with any projects, feed our dogs, introduce us to friends and the list goes on.
We will miss Del’s great big smile and his heartwarming laugh. How grateful we are to have met Del on this journey called life. He will be greatly missed but we’ll hold tight to our memories.
Much Love to all of you.

Del always made others feel welcome, special, heard. A great conversationalist, with humor, sincerity, and sass. We have such fond memories of “old neighborhood” gatherings, Johnson euchre parties, senior trips, our kids’ friendships, swim team events with Del and Mary. And Del and I had a special kinship when he began driving school bus for my special needs students. It was a perfect job to share his kindness and caring nature.
May these memories and many more comfort the Templeton family now.
Hugs to Mary, Jessica, Chelsea, Jonathon (and families) from Ron and I.

Remembering and celebrating a one-of-a-kind spirit who touched many lives. Del was a wonderful and kind man who brought much joy. He brought energy and cheer wherever he went. We remember the great times we had with all our kids cross-country/downhill skiing, camping out, being at the cottage, and senior high trips. Winning at Dominoes was a highlight. We’ll miss the conversations and his kindness. Our sympathies to all the Templeton family .

We only met Mary and Del just a few times, but through the years we have heard so many stories from Amy and Joe about the deep friendship shared with dear Plymouth friends, even despite the required long distance connections. We remember Del's joy of living and his wonderful smile. He will be missed by so many. Sending thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

My time spent with Del and the Templeton family decreased heavily after my family moved out of Michigan. However, the deep family friendship persisted over distance and time and I was fortunate to see Del and members of the family on occasion over the years. A lasting fond memory of Del was the morning after celebrating Jessica's wedding at another family friend's house in our hometown of Plymouth. The smiles, stories, and joy of the previous evening hadn't faded in the slightest from Del's face as well as the few others that enjoyed a cup of coffee in the hotel lobby. That memory is one of my favorites from that weekend where I got to visit with many old friends.

Much love and best wishes from afar to the Templeton family.

Del was one kind man! We were fortunate he & Mary made Punta Gorda and LaVista their winter home for many years. I used to always look forward to Del arriving in early fall. He was wonderful to us and served on the Board for several years. He would always be available to help with the building and the residents but not on Tuesday afternoons when he enjoyed his Team Punta Gorda get togethers! Our condolences to the Templeton Family on Del’s passing.

How does one summarize a 33 year old friendship? As I sit here trying to put all of my thoughts and unbelievable memories (laughing just thinking about them) into a short paragraph, I realize it’s impossible. So I’m going to make this short and sweet. Del, I’m going to dearly miss you. By the way, a corner chair, next to the window, overlooking the street is lonely. Maybe I’ll put a Meyer’s and a flat Pepsi on the side table?

There are so many wonderful memories to share about Del. You might say the Templeton and Johnson families grew up together. Del was an amazing positive influence on both the kids and adults over the years. He was always up beat and selflessly helpful. I can’t look at a bottle of Myers’s rum, go for a bike ride or use the term “they say” without thinking of Del. I don’t know if they have BBB in heaven but I will be toasting you down here my friend. Love going out to the Templeton Family.

We had many great memories with Del & his family. Great times on our boats, and at our cottages both up north & on the lake in Ohio. Then there was Cozumel! And New Years Eve welcoming in Y2K! We loved our times together and so did our children. We will all miss you Del. Thanks for the memories!!!

I’ve moved about 32 times in 73 years now. Never had a wonderful neighbor like Del & Mary of the “Mag 8” here at Daisy Square. I will miss the rum & Pepsi lectures on my patio. I will miss him cheating on the bike mileage to get me to pedal another mile. Sharon and I will just miss him. He raised a wonderful family and our prayers to Mary and his family, the loves of his life. RIP my brother. Jim & Sharon

We were so privileged to get to know Del through the Canton swim team and Colony Swim Club. Mary, you and Del were among the most loving and welcoming people I have ever known. I can’t remember a time when Del wasn’t smiling. He was always so friendly and joyful. Our hearts are breaking for all of you. We are so sorry for your loss.

Sending my love to everyone who loved Del. Growing up I spent so much time at the Templeton house and have many fond memories of Del. I smile thinking of all the times he gave me much deserved grief in my formative years. He was an expert joker, and a fantastic dad (and those Templeton kids were wild!) I'm grateful to have had Del and the Templeton family in my life. Carrying you all in my heart as you mourn the loss of your dad.
