Obituary
Derek Michael Smith, of Lehigh Acres passed away on December 12, 2021, he was 50. Born in Warwick, Rhode Island to the late Winfield W. Smith and surviving him Eleanoure E. (nee Wolfenden) Smith. Derek attended Cranston High School and earned a degree becoming and Medical Assistant. His true passion was building, restoring, and re-purposing furniture. Moving to Florida in 1989 Derek enjoyed everything offered in the Sunshine State, in his free time he enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time at the beach. He was also an avid card player, skilled bowler and excellent cook. Family and friends describe him as larger than life, hardworking, loyal friend with a heart of gold, who brought joy to all who knew him.
Derek is survived by his adoring mother, Eleanoure E. (nee Wolfenden) Smith, loving daughter Mikayla Smith, dear siblings Wayne W. Smith, Jr, Gail L. Pimentel(Jose), and Roger W. Smith(Ana), nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Wayne III, Crystal and Dean; close family friend Sasha Slaughter, and beloved and constant companion his Yorkie, Tinker Bell. He is reunited with his father, Winfield W. Smith and taken too soon from this world, his nephew Joey.
Family and Friends will honor Derek’s life on Friday December 17, 2021 from 3-5 PM at Baldwin Brothers, A Funeral and Cremation Society at 4320 Colonial Blvd (Intersection of Winkler and Colonial) from 3-5 PM, a brief time to share memories will be offered at 4:30 PM. Interment will be private
