Obituary

Diane Ellen Smith
Passed with peace and grace on July 29, 2018 with her family at her side.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1942, she is survived by her husband, 2 children, 4 grandchildren, a sister, and extended family.
Though travelling was a passion, and she visited over 50 countries, Diane made her home in Ponce Inlet in 2006 and immediately set down lasting roots, becoming involved in numerous town activities. She volunteered her many talents and her heart to the Garden Club, Parks Board, and Women’s Club among other activities and events. Her selfless devotion was recognized through her election as President of the Garden Club, where she served from 2010 to 2012. As a true testament to her spirit and philanthropy, she was also awarded Gardener of the Year in 2010 and Citizen of the Year in 2011.
She was known and loved for her quick wit, creative talent, and compassion for all.
In lieu of flowers, any donations made in her name will be used to create the
Diane Smith Memorial Scholarship that will be administered through the Garden Club.

Donations can be sent to: The Ponce Inlet Garden Club

“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years” (Abraham Lincoln) and Diane made them all special!

Instead of flowers, the family would prefer if you would make a donation to

I spent time with Diane , initially, working with her on Garden Club Projects, when I first joined the Club....... She was so dynamic and positive & willing to share her, excitement, knowledge, love for nature & ability to create everything ( out of nothing ! ) with anyone who would listen & learn...... I experienced her as a "genuinely" compassionate , open minded & capable woman who always wanted to make the world around her more beautiful and interesting! ( Oh yes.... and she could play Bocce like a Pro!! ) Diane was a Blessing for the Garden Club - for the Town of Ponce Inlet - and for all of us who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gary and her family. This loss is one that will take a fair amount of time to heal... In the end, we will all remember her kind heart and gentle spirit.
