Obituary

Donald Ray Keatley, 81, of Fort Myers, Florida passed away on January 21, 2024.

Donald, fondly known as ‘Don’, ‘Bubba’, ‘Grandpa’ and ‘Poppa’, was born in Charleston, West Virginia. He graduated from West Virginia University with both a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics and a Master’s of Industrial Relations and Human Resources. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force and then worked his entire professional career for GE. He met his wife, Carol, in St. Albans, West Virginia and they married on July 2, 1973. Don loved his family more than anything, and cherished his many close friends. He was incredibly proud of his two sons. Don spent much of his free time doing construction projects for friends and family, repairs around the house for Carol, and rooting for his favorite sports teams. Don will be remembered as having a great sense of humor and as someone who could be counted on for giving sound advice.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, father Ray Henry Keatley and mother Dorothy Louise Brady Keatley. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Sue Keatley, his two sons, Brad Keatley (wife, Summer Keatley) and Mark Keatley (wife, Lindsey Keatley), and his grandchildren, Sadie Keatley, Cade Keatley and Cameron Keatley.

Celebration of Life service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Country Club, located at 9181 Independence Way, Fort Myers, FL 33913. In lieu of flowers, please kindly consider honoring Don by mailing a donation to the Fort Myers Fire Department at 2033 Jackson Street, Fort Myers, FL 33901.

Don was truly a very special guy. His dry wit, vast knowledge, helpfulness, and friendliness, are just a few of his great qualities. He will be missed by many, many, folks. Don was a one in a million regarding his resolve to live and contribute to this world. Don was special. Nothing but the best for Carol, and the entire family. God speed my friend.

We’ve known you guys for We have known you guys for 46 years and will miss Don terribly. We will always remember the good times here in Florida with going out to eat, looking at model homes, and all the golf while the ladies shopped.

Our best times were dinners with Carol and Don. Don had introduced us as blind date 56 years ago while we were roommate officers in the USAF
