Obituary

Donald Raymond Hinton, 70,  of Wildwood, FL passed away on January 12, 2024.

Donald was born on April 12, 1954 in Morristown, NJ to Jessie and Douglas Hinton. Donald was the 6th born of 7 children. Donald often shared fond memories of growing up with his brothers and sister, spending much time around the family business, Douglas Cleaners in Dover, NJ. Donald attended school in Jefferson Township, NJ. After  high school , he joined the National Guard  and later went on to become a car salesman. Donald was loved by many and was often called by a nickname – Don, Dallas, Donny and probably more. Don was often the life of the party in his younger years with his unmatched sense of humor. Don had a deep love of driving, cars, motorcycles and Nascar. Even in retirement, his love for anything with wheels and an engine shone brightly. Don loved to go for a drive to nowhere, listening to Bob Seeger, The Eagles and The Moody Blues.

Donald passed his love of a drive to nowhere onto his two daughters, Tracy Hinton-Meddaugh of Liberty, NY and Amanda Hinton of Tucson, AZ. His love of classic rock was also inherited by his two  girls.

Don will always be remembered for his sense of humor and love of life’s simple pleasures – like a great cup of coffee with the newspaper. We will always imagine hearing him say, “Always remember not to forget” or one of many other ‘Donald-isms’ one last time. Donny was a true character, through and through and will be missed by all who have known and loved him.

Don was preceded in death by his mother and father, Jessie and Douglas Hinton;  Brothers Stanley “Stan”, Thomas “Tommy” and John “Jack” Hinton; and Sisters-in-Law Karen, Catherine and Linda Hinton. We know Donny was elated to reunite with his family in heaven. Don is survived by his daughters, Tracy Hinton-Meddaugh and Amanda Hinton; Son-in-Law Jonathan Meddaugh; 3 grandchildren – Gwendolyn, Tierney and Holldin of Liberty, NY; brother Douglas Hinton of Hackettstown, NJ; sister Jean and brother-in-law Robert Pabst of The Villages, FL; brother Gary and sister-in-law Irene Hinton of Saylorsburg, PA; several beloved nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends.

A celebration of life will be held in Don’s home state of New Jersey later this year. Donations to the Mental Health Association and American Heart Association would be greatly appreciated.
